My Football Team

For reading the last few weeks, we have been doing work on an olympic sport. My team did Football (Soccer) I don't want to spoil the work, but we had a Captain, Coach, Nutrition and Trainer. I was the team Captain. And I was in charge of researching about the history of the sport. I found out a WHOLE bunch of information about the game. Like in the christmas of WW2, the British soldiers and the German soldiers, both dropped their guns, refilled all of the trenches, and had a game of football. While everybody was still fighting. Crazy eh? They could just stop fighting for a day, then the next they began again. Anyway I found it really fun and I learnt alot too. I found it easy to put it into a format so that it easy to read, and to figure out what goes first. I found it a bit challenging to get a lot of information about the sport and the history behind the sport, but I did find some interesting information.

Natural Disaster Survival Kit

In reading we have been learning about natural disasters and tsunamis. our create activity for reading was to make a survival kit for a natural disaster. I used my thinking and ideas from my persuasive writing that you can find somewhere on this blog. I found it easy to make my tems using the polyline tool, and to trace around images that were too hard to do on my own. I found it challenging to polyline my radio. I got something so simple to do and somehow make it so hard. I could of just made a brick with some buttons but instead I made a full on Sony radio, with a boombox speaker. I enjoyed learning about natural disasters and making this kit. Now I know how to be safe and how to be prepared for a dangerous disaster. Next time I will hand my mahi in on time, and spend less time making the picture look pretty.

Ruaumoko Rages Book Review.

Title of the Book - Ruaumoko Rages

Author - Bronwen Wall

I rated this book a 3/5 stars because it isn't the kind of book that I would choose to read, but I did read it and i did learn a lot. I learnt about the different types of volcanoes. The stratocone The Lava dome and the Caldera. My favourite part is when they told me about all of the different volcanoes in NZ. THERE ARE HEAPS. You should read this because it is an interesting book, and I learnt a lot. I think that if you like learning something new and you like volcanos then you will like this book.

Volcano Animation!

In team toroa we have been learning about natural disasters. In reading we have been learning about volcanoes. My animation below is how a volcano erupts and some questions I had about volcanos that I have now answered! I enjoyed learning about volcanic eruptions and how interesting they are! Did you know that there are three different types of volcanoes? A stratocone volcano, a dome volcano and a caldera! I found it easy to learn the process of how an eruption is caused. It was a bit scary at first, big lava shooting cannons all over the world, but now I think that it is cool and interesting. I found it hard to make the lava inside of the earthquake look kinda good, but it was very hard to just do it with polyline so I went with the option of just a big blob of red orange and yellow. Next time I will put more effort into my polylining, and make it look more realistic.

Solar Car Videos!

We were learning about solar energy and how it works. Solar power is a type of energy generated from the suns UV rays. It can be put through a solar panel, to then generate power for a house or business. I found it easy to understand the way it all works, with the sites provided. The science reading hub is a really great place for learning, and the best thing is they explain it at a level that kids can understand! It's the best site ever and it taught me so much about solar energy. We found it hard to keep it going in the same direction. One of the tires weren't on, so it kept on spinning. but we took all of the tires off so it was a bit better. I enjoyed playing with the solar car. It was even funnier when Rhodes and I started singing! Its so cool that a thing so small can move with the power of the sun.

Solar Kiwi Book Review

We were learning about solar energy and solar power. Solar power is energy generated from the sun. People put solar panels on there roof to generate electricity for their house. I found it easy to find my favourite parts of the book. So do you know when you're learning something new that you like, you get really invested and interested? Well that happens with every book for me. I could be reading about nearly anything and I would enjoy it. I enjoyed learning about solar energy. It is so interesting that the sun can generate enough energy to power a house or two. I think that solar power could benefit so many lives. I mean yeah they are crazy expensive, but It could also save quite a lot of money for families in need.  I found it hard to make my way through the book. Sometimes with books I'm reading it takes me a little wile to get going, so instead of it taking me five minutes to read the book, it can take me ten minutes. I get lost in the words, and lose my place, but once I regain some balance... Im off. Next time I will try to use my other resources for research. I was only limiting myself to only the books I was assigned. But I also had the science learning hub (Link to the document about solar power below) that I read AFTER doing my follow up activities. I should of done it the other way round so I didn't have to continuously open the slide to add more info that I had learnt. So next time I will read ALL of the sites and books I had been given BEFORE doing my follow up activities.

This has been Toby and bye bye.
